Tiedemann’s Dive Control Specialist program is quite a bit more then just a "stepping stone". Tiedemann’s Dive Control Specialist program helps you develop instructor level knowledge on every aspect of diving. Tiedemann’s Dive Control Specialist program helps you to develop your personal diving skills to their full potential. The cost of the program is $ 800. That fee does include Dive Control Specialist home study kit. Fee does not include “Dive Professional Registration Fee” which is paid to SSI. As of early 2011 that fee was $75.

Since the program is on going, you may join the program at any time.

Underwater Navigation.

Transient

If you're planning to build something that is going to last, start with a good foundation.

One of the most fundamental skills that every diver should know is how to navigate underwater. These skills are the basis for many of the things that divers need to be able to do during regular diving. Some skills are simple like getting back to the spot you started your dive from. Some are more complex like finding a lost object underwater. During our two dives together we will sharpen those navigation skills so you will be able to find your way no matter what type of diving you do.

From beach diving to wreck diving, navigation skills are used on every dive.  We will use our navigation skills developed in this course in our Limited Visibility & Night Diving course and Search and Recovery course.  This is a great way to start your advance training.

The navigation program consists of a home study with the SSI  Underwater Navigation book. One day of diving at Dutch Springs. Underwater Navigation is taught on Saturdays of our Dutch Springs training weekend. All briefings will be done at Dutch Springs. Our next Navigation course will be held during one of our Advanced/Specialties weekends at Dutch Springs. Check our online Calendar for dates. Note that all programs have a minimum number of students in order for them to be taught.

The cost of the course is $65. The cost of the Navigation book is $25. If  the Navigation course is taken at the same time as our Limited Visibility & Night Diving course (normal cost is $65) the two programs have a combined cost of $110. This course is priced to be part of our Advanced Diver certification. For a diver to receive Advanced Open Water diver certification, a diver must, complete four speciality courses and log 24 dives. Science of Diving program.

Transient

What can you do to make yourself a better diver?

Think about this - every time we go diving we use skills, knowledge and equipment to do something we were not designed to do – be underwater and breathing. Sometimes we forget just how amazing that is.

Well if you want to know about the science that goes into us being able to be underwater and breathing  - then this is the course for you. The Science of Diving touches on every aspect of diving. The modules will include: Diving Physics, Diving Physiology, Decompression Theory, Dive Equipment and the Aquatic Environment.  Knowledge that you will find useful in all your diving activities.

There is an pool session (as part of our Scuba Alumni program at Hofstra University) at which we take a look at some of the physics of diving and some of the more interesting equipment used in diving today and in the past. You may take the course without the pool session. It is offered as a bonus at no extra charge.

The cost of the course is $150 and the book cost $30. This course counts toward your SSI Advanced Open Water Diver and SSI Master Diver program.

If you think you might want to be a Divemaster or Instructor someday this course is required for all of leadership courses that we teach at Tiedemann’s Diving Center. This includes: Dive Guide, Dive Master, Dive Control Specialist and Open Water Instructor.

Call Ed Tiedemann at 516-796-6560 if you have any questions.

The next class will take place on Fridays from 7 to 9 PM at Tiedemann's Diving Center. The meeting dates are November 9, 16, 30 and December 7 & 15th. Pool session is at Hofstra University on Saturdays from 3 to 6 PM. Available pool dates are November 10, 17, December 1, 8 and 15th.
